The times we are living in are taking on an air of uncertainty. Economically we wonder when the recovery will begin. Politically – we wonder what changes the November decision will bring. Socially, we wonder what the impact of ‘postmodern’ and ‘emergent’ will really be. In many ways – these things begin to stir up fear. Yet God is forever calling us to a life of faith.
Faith is the key that unlocks the power of God in our lives. It enables us to live by God’s promises and experience His blessings in our personal lives. Jesus said He came to give us abundant life; He also said the Devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy. One of his tactics is simply to stir up faith-paralyzing fear. In the struggle of faith, battles are inevitable but temporal victory is not. Yet God’s promise is: “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you’.” (Isaiah 41:13)
So how do you stand fearless when so much is at stake? How do we ‘take the hills’ that life offers us with faith and courage in God – and see it through to victory? The upcoming sermon series I’m starting on September 14th, FEARLESS, is about just that. 2 Timothy 1:7 says “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline”. With this in mind, we’ll take a look at 7 heroes of the Old Testament – and how they overcame their own fears to follow the Lord in faith. I’m excited about this series. I’m trusting God to use it to move us toward a life filled with the faith that can move mountains, a faith based on the holy fear of God.
